A Comparative Study on the Abrasiveness of the Denture Use of the Denture Cleaner

Abstract


Objective: The comparision test was performed in order to get the guide time for proper denture cleaning without scratching on the denture surface.

Methods: Forty denture base specimens and forty artificial teeth were prepared and devided with 4 groups as used for distilled water, Anti-plaque dentifrice as strong hardness for abrasiveness sensodyne dentifrice as week hardness for abrasiveness and denture cleaner, as 10 samples for a group in order to test the abrasiveness with the use of the denture cleaner and dentifrice by use of the automatic tooth-brushing machine for 600 times horizontal movements. Reflecting microscope was used to observe the surface roughness classified with 4 points degree. Average score was calculated both in experimented group and the control and compared each other.

Results: The scratch was severe in a group used with Anti-plague dentifrice and the least or similar as week scratch in both groups with use of denture cleaner and the water.

Conclusion: Denture cleaner was recommended to use in order to diminish the scratch on the denture base or artificial teeth.
